Vinyl Underground #9

vinylunderground.09.14

Hey Kids, We all know what today is! It's VINYL UNDERGROUND TUESDAY, where we all examine a new Vinyl Underground page and see if it changes colors when encountering a predator in the wild!*

Also, as usual, always and forever, Local #12 is delayed. Tell the Mean People that I finished drawing it a long time ago and it's not my fault. Hopefully it comes next week, fingers crossed!

*That's a bald-faced lie, there is no such thing as VINYL UNDERGROUND TUESDAY.

Pretty Pretty Vinyl Underground

Expert shark illustrator, Simon Gane, directed me to some color files for The Vinyl Underground #8. I love to see my inks under the palette of a real colorist like Guy Major and not a jive turkey colorist like me. They make pretty things sparkle in my eye balls. And I like to look at them on the bright, shiny computer monitor (no offense, paper).

P.S. You should really be reading this book, like, NOW. No other book I've ever worked on has more sex, drugs, and rock and roll. And SHARKS.

The Vinyl Underground 08.18.01

vinylunderground.08.18.1

One issue of The Vinyl Underground is shipped off to the cleaners, and a new box of pencils arrive on my doorstep the next morning. The punishing cycle of the comic book inker.

Pencils by the Incomparable Simon Gane.
Inks by the incomprehensible Me.

During the daytime, I draw Local, teach, or draw the numerous other deadline-crushing activities. But in the middle of the night, I ink The Vinyl Underground-- in the dank shroud of darkness, When nothing can be heard but the hollow footsteps of all the motherless scoundrels of society tapping on the cold street outside my window, as I drink lukewarm tea and listen to David Bowie. Or something like that.
